On January 15th, 1919, Boston witnessed a disaster unlike any other. A massive tank filled with syrup burst open in the city's North End, unleashing a wave of sticky sweetness that raged through the streets like a tsunami. The flood, standing at least 25 feet in some areas, was devastating. Buildings were flattened under the force of the sticky goo.
The aftermath was tragic. Twenty-one people lost their lives, and many more suffered injuries. The flood also caused a great deal of destruction to property, leaving a trail of sweet devastation in its wake.
